Purplepass now supports PayPal Pay in 4, allowing your customers to split their ticket purchase into four interest-free payments. This feature works with any payment processor you use on Purplepass, as long as you have a Business PayPal account connected.
Below is everything you need to know about enabling and using Pay in 4.
What is Pay in 4?
Pay in 4 is PayPal’s buy-now-pay-later option. Customers can pay:
1 installment at checkout, and
3 additional installments, automatically charged by PayPal.
Organizers receive full payment upfront, and PayPal manages the installments and credit risk.
Requirements
To use Pay in 4, you must have:
A Business PayPal account
Pay in 4 / Buy Now, Pay Later enabled in your PayPal settings
Most business accounts have this enabled automatically.
A valid PayPal email address added in Purplepass
An event or account using any supported merchant processor, including:
Purplepass DMA/CMA
Authorize.Net
Cardpointe / CardConnect
Bluefin
TouchNet
Direct PayPal Merchant Account
Note: Pay in 4 eligibility is controlled entirely by PayPal. Small order totals may not qualify.
How to Enable Pay in 4 in Purplepass
Log in to your Purplepass admin.
Go to Settings → Merchant Account.
Under Additional Options, find:
“Offer buy now, pay later via PayPal.”Check the box to enable the feature.
Enter your Business PayPal email.
Click Save.
No additional setup is required on Purplepass.
How Customers Use Pay in 4 at Checkout
When a customer reaches the payment step:
They choose between Credit Card or Pay Later via PayPal.
Selecting Pay Later sends them to PayPal to log in (guest checkout is not available).
PayPal shows the Pay in 4 installment plan including:
What’s due today
Three future payment dates
The customer confirms the plan in PayPal and returns to Purplepass to complete their order.
The rest of the checkout and confirmation flow stays the same.
How Payments Work for Organizers
You receive full payment immediately, just like a normal PayPal transaction.
PayPal handles all installment billing and risk.
Reporting in Purplepass shows a split between:
Charges processed through Purplepass
Charges processed through PayPal
Everything else in your reporting and payout process remains unchanged.
Troubleshooting
Customer doesn’t see Pay in 4 as an option
Common causes:
Order total is below PayPal’s minimum threshold
Customer is not logged in to PayPal
Customer’s PayPal account isn’t eligible
Your connected PayPal account is not a Business account
Pay in 4 is enabled in Purplepass, but checkout only shows normal PayPal
Your PayPal Business account may not have BNPL enabled.
Check your PayPal settings or contact PayPal support for confirmation.
Purplepass cannot enable BNPL inside PayPal.
