This article explains what the cart lock timer is and how you can customize it for your Purplepass account.
What Is the Cart Lock Timer?
When a customer adds tickets to their cart, those tickets are held, or locked, for a set period of time so the customer has a chance to complete checkout. If checkout isn't completed within that window, the tickets are automatically released back into available inventory.
You can customize how long this lock period lasts. This setting is applied on an account-level basis, meaning it applies to all events under your organizer account.
How to Customize Your Lock Timer
To update your account's lock timer:
- Log in to your Purplepass account.
- Go to Settings.
- Click Preferences.
- Locate Time allowed for checkout.
- Select the amount of time you would like to allow customers to complete checkout before tickets are auto-released.
- Save your changes.
Available Lock Timer Durations
You can choose from the following options:
- 10 minutes
- 15 minutes
- 20 minutes
- 25 minutes
- 30 minutes
Conflicting Lock Timers
If a customer's cart contains tickets from two or more different event organizer accounts, and those organizers have different lock timer settings, the lock timer used for the entire cart is determined by whichever organizer's ticket was added to the cart first. That single lock timer then applies to every ticket in the cart, including tickets added afterward from other organizers' events.
EXAMPLE:
- Organizer ABC has their lock timer set to 25 minutes.
- Organizer XYZ has their lock timer set to 10 minutes.

In both scenarios, the lock timer belonging to whichever organizer's ticket entered the cart first is the one that applies for the entire checkout, regardless of what timer is set on the other organizer's account.
